Alternative Dance Artists

In the British Isles during the 1980s, New Order brought alternative dance into view by joining alternative rock to electronic dance music. The style keeps rock’s band-based sensibility but trades much of its traditional feel for programmed rhythms, synths and club-minded momentum. It sits between indie and dance rather than fully belonging to either, with songs that can retain pop or rock structure while drawing on electronic production. In the United States, it has also been called indie dance or underground dance. The Prodigy helped give the sound wider exposure in the 1990s.
