Toro y Moi

Toro y Moi is the principal project of Chaz Bear, born Chazwick Bradley Bundick on November 7, 1986. An American singer, songwriter, record producer and graphic designer from Columbia, South Carolina, he emerged as one of the artists associated with chillwave's late-2000s and early-2010s rise, alongside Washed Out and Neon Indian.

Bear's work under the Toro y Moi name has moved well beyond that early association, drawing on electronic music, indie pop, R&B, funk, house, disco, hip-hop and psychedelic sounds. He has also worked under several other names, including Les Sins, Sides Of Chaz and PLUM. His recordings have been released through labels including Carpark Records, Dead Oceans, Company Studio, Arts & Crafts, Company Records and A24 Music.

The name Toro y Moi combines languages: “toro y” translates from Spanish as “bull and,” while moi is French for “me.”
