Ninja Tune
Founded in London in 1990 by Coldcut's Matt Black and Jonathan More, Ninja Tune began as an outlet for music that sat outside major-label expectations. Its early DJ Food releases, including the Jazz Brakes series, centred on instrumental hip-hop cuts and reflected the duo's interest in beats, sampling and DJ culture.
The independent label has since worked across electronic music and adjacent pop, club and experimental forms, building a roster with sharply different approaches rather than a single house sound. Artists including Machinedrum, DJ Seinfeld, TSHA, salute, Barry Can't Swim, Ben Böhmer, Nilüfer Yanya and ODESZA reflect that broad reach. Ninja Tune remains rooted in London, with a history tied to artist-led releases and Coldcut's multimedia-minded approach.
