Fever Ray
Fever Ray is the solo alias of Swedish singer-songwriter and record producer Karin Elisabeth Dreijer, one half of the electronic duo the Knife alongside their brother Olof Dreijer. Born on 7 April 1975 in Nacka, Sweden, Dreijer introduced Fever Ray with a debut album released in January 2009, following the Knife's work.
The project carries Dreijer's distinctive vocal approach, moving between shrill and low tones and using multitracking and pitch-shifting technology to alter and layer the voice. Fever Ray's music sits in an electronic world that also draws on experimental pop, synthpop, ambient music, club forms and darker dance music.
Fever Ray is also a visual project. Dreijer uses masks, face and body paint, elaborate costumes and theatrical staging across photographs, videos and live performances. Onstage, they often perform behind a gauze screen that partly obscures the view from the audience. The second Fever Ray studio album, Plunge, arrived in October 2017.
