Röyksopp
Röyksopp’s debut album, Melody A.M., received critical acclaim and sold more than 750,000 copies worldwide after its release in 2001. Formed in Tromsø, Norway, in 1998, the electronic duo consists of Svein Berge and Torbjørn Brundtland.
The pair’s music has moved through electronic forms including downtempo, trip hop, house and synth-pop. Their name comes from the Norwegian word for the puffball mushroom, “røyksopp,” rendered with an ö rather than an ø. The word translates literally as “smoke mushroom,” referring to the dark, smoke-like cloud in which the mushroom releases its spores.
