Black Hole Recordings
Black Hole Recordings is closely associated with DJ Tiësto’s early recording career and the Magik and Space Age compilation series, projects that helped define the label’s public profile. The company was founded in the fall of 1997 and began by releasing dance music on vinyl, building an identity around DJ-driven compilations as well as label releases presented as “magikal stories.”
The label was co-owned by Tiësto until 2009, when he sold his share of the company to Arny Bink, who is listed as the owner. Over time, Black Hole Recordings has been credited under name variations including Black Hole Records and www.blackholerecordings.com.
Alongside its label activities, the company also operated a record shop, Magik: The Record Store, located at Nieuwstraat 46 in Breda. The shop used the same logo as the first editions of the Magik mix compilations and closed in 2006.
Black Hole Recordings’ roster and associations reflect its roots in DJ culture and electronic dance music, with artists such as Solarstone, Johan Gielen, Airscape, Markus Schulz, Driftmoon, Ciaran McAuley, Rinaly, and vocalist Christina Novelli appearing among the notable names connected with the label.
