Tame Impala is the psychedelic music project led by Australian singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer Kevin Parker, who writes, records, performs and produces its studio work himself. Parker conceived the project in Perth in 2007, building a sound that moved between guitar-led psychedelic rock, hazy pop melodies and increasingly synthesiser-driven production.

After issuing early singles and EPs, Tame Impala released its debut album, Innerspeaker, in 2010. The record was certified gold in Australia and received strong critical notices. Its 2012 follow-up, Lonerism, reached platinum status in Australia, earned a Grammy Award nomination for Best Alternative Music Album, and further established Parker's work as both meticulously constructed studio music and a major live draw.

The third album, Currents, arrived in July 2015 and marked a pronounced turn toward synths, rhythm and dance-oriented arrangements. Like Lonerism, it won ARIA Awards for Best Rock Album and Album of the Year. “Let It Happen,” the album's opening track, brought Parker the 2016 APRA Award for Song of the Year. Tame Impala's fourth studio album, The Slow Rush, followed on 14 February 2020 and was also praised by critics; the project won five awards at the 2020 ARIA Music Awards.

In the studio, Tame Impala remains Parker's singular project, while its touring lineup expands the music into a band format. Parker performs vocals, guitar and synthesiser alongside Dominic Simper on guitar and synthesiser, Jay Watson on synthesiser, vocals and guitar, Cam Avery on bass, vocals and synthesiser, Julien Barbagallo on drums and vocals, and James Ireland on guitar and synthesiser. The group has long shared members and collaborators with the Australian psychedelic rock band Pond, including Watson and Ireland, as well as former member Nick Allbrook.

Originally signed to Modular Recordings, Tame Impala signed with Interscope Records in the United States and Fiction Records in the United Kingdom in 2015. The fifth studio album, Deadbeat, was released in 2025 to polarized reviews. Its single “Dracula” was commercially successful, and a remix featuring South Korean singer Jennie of Blackpink became Tame Impala's first top-ten hit on the US Billboard Hot 100.
