Hans Zimmer

Hans Florian Zimmer, born 12 September 1957 in Frankfurt, Germany, has composed scores for more than 150 films since the 1980s. His work combines electronic sounds with traditional orchestral arrangements, a method heard across films ranging from Rain Man and The Lion King to Gladiator, Inception, Interstellar and Dune.

Zimmer spent the early part of his career in the United Kingdom before moving to the United States. He is head of the film music division at DreamWorks Pictures and DreamWorks Animation, and founded the composers' company Remote Control Productions, formerly Media Ventures. His Santa Monica studio houses extensive computer equipment and keyboards, allowing score demos to be produced quickly.

His Academy Award-winning scores include The Lion King (1994) and Dune (2021). Zimmer's other honours include a BAFTA Award, three Golden Globe Awards, five Grammy Awards and seven Primetime Emmy nominations. The Daily Telegraph named him among its Top 100 Living Geniuses in 2007.

Zimmer has maintained long-running collaborations with major filmmakers. He worked with Christopher Nolan on six films, from Batman Begins (2005) through Dunkirk (2017), including the Dark Knight trilogy, Inception and Interstellar. His credits also include the Pirates of the Caribbean series, Black Hawk Down, The Last Samurai, Man of Steel, No Time to Die, F1 and the Dune series. He has worked repeatedly with directors including Ridley Scott, Tony Scott, Ron Howard, Gore Verbinski, Michael Bay, James L. Brooks, Steve McQueen, Guy Ritchie and Denis Villeneuve.
