Dance RockSophisti-popUK Post-punk

Formed in 1977, A Certain Ratio was originally a quartet with Jeremy Kerr (bass), Martin Moscrop (guitar/trumpet), Peter Terrel (guitar/effects) and Simon Topping (vocals/trumpet). Their band name comes from a lyric from Brian Eno’s song The True Wheel.

They are mostly known for their output on Factory Records, which combined post-punk and funk/Latin American influences.

Over the years there have been many changes in line-up and periods of inactivity. As of 2024, the core members of A Certain Ratio are Jeremy Kerr, Martin Moscrop and Donald Johnson.
