Interpol
Interpol is an American indie rock and post-punk revival band originating from New York City. Formed in 1997, the band's initial line-up featured Paul Banks (vocals, guitar), Daniel Kessler (guitar, vocals), Carlos Dengler (bass guitar, keyboards), and Greg Drudy (drums, percussion). Drudy departed in 2000, and Sam Fogarino took his place. In 2010, following the completion of their fourth album, Dengler left to focus on personal pursuits. The band reconvened for their fifth album, El Pintor, released in fall 2014.
Interpol first performed at Luna Lounge alongside other well-known bands like The Strokes, Longwave, The National, and Stellastarr*. This band is associated with the New York City indie music scene and was among several groups that emerged from the post-punk revival of the 2000s. Their sound typically combines staccato bass with rhythmic, harmonized guitar, featuring a snare-heavy mix, and they are often compared to post-punk bands like Joy Division and The Chameleons.
Aside from the lyrics, their songwriting approach involves collaboration among all band members instead of relying on a single chief songwriter.
