Hercules & Love Affair

Hercules and Love Affair began with “Blind,” the collaboration between Andy Butler and Anohni that became a hit single and was named Pitchfork’s song of the year. Created by the American DJ, singer, composer, musician and producer in 2004, the project has worked with a rotating cast of performers and musicians across house, disco, techno and nu-disco. Originally based in New York City, Hercules and Love Affair is now based in Ghent, Belgium.

The project’s self-titled 2008 debut album received widespread critical acclaim. Butler followed it with Blue Songs in 2011, then released The Feast of the Broken Heart in 2014. John Grant appeared as a guest on the latter album’s single “I Try to Talk to You.” The 2017 album Omnion, the group’s fourth, included Sharon Van Etten on its title track.

In 2022, Hercules and Love Affair released its fifth album, In Amber. Anohni featured on several songs, reconnecting with Butler for a full-length release after their earlier work together on “Blind” and the debut album. The lead single “Grace” featured Icelandic singer Elin Ey. In Amber received widespread critical acclaim and was named Album of the Year 2022 by The Arts Desk.
