Hercules & Love Affair
Hercules & Love Affair is a dance music project started by Andrew Butler in 2004, featuring a rotating ensemble of performers and musicians. The group works within genres like house music, disco, techno, and nu-disco.
The project's debut LP came out in 2008 with singer ANOHNI, who also co-wrote some tracks on the album. Their second album, the relatively understated Blue Songs, was released in early 2011. After touring Blue Songs, Butler went to Vienna to lay down ideas for his third album. This time, he opted for a grittier sound by blending elements of raw house and techno, resulting in the album The Feast of the Broken Heart (2014), featuring vocal contributions from John Grant, Krystle Warren, and Rouge Mary. The fourth album, Omnion, was released in mid-2017, with collaborations from Sharon Van Etten, Faris Badwan of the Horrors, and Icelandic singer Sísý Ey. Later, Butler reunited with ANOHNI after fourteen years since their debut for 2022's In Amber, a darker and denser work compared to the previous albums.
