Nettwerk Music Group

Nettwerk Music Group is an independent music company founded in 1984 in Vancouver, originally created as a record label to distribute recordings by the band Moev. From its beginnings, it developed into an umbrella organization encompassing Nettwerk Records, Nettwerk Management, Nettwerk Producer Management, and Nettwerk One Publishing, and it has at times operated explicitly as a label under the Nettwerk name.

The company’s early identity was closely tied to electronic music, with an initial focus on genres such as alternative dance and industrial. Over time, Nettwerk broadened its scope, becoming active in pop and rock as its roster and international profile expanded in the late 1980s and 1990s. Its catalog and artist development history have been associated with a mix of electronic-rooted acts and more mainstream singer-songwriter and band-oriented releases, reflecting a label culture that has not been confined to a single style.

Nettwerk was founded by Terry McBride, Mark Jowett, Ric Arboit, and Dan Fraser. As it grew beyond its original Canadian base, it expanded internationally and developed a reputation for working with artists across different stages of their careers. Artists commonly linked to the label’s history include Sarah McLachlan, Skinny Puppy, and Coldplay, alongside later signings such as fun., Old Crow Medicine Show, Morgan Page, Wanting, and Family of the Year. In more recent contexts, names associated with Nettwerk’s output include SYML, Hollie Kenniff, and other contemporary artists connected to its releases.

While rooted in Vancouver, Nettwerk has described itself as a worldwide organization, with offices including Los Angeles, New York City, Boston, London, and Hamburg. Across its label, management, and publishing arms, it has positioned itself as a multi-service operation for artists, reflecting a structure that extends beyond traditional record-label functions.
