The xx

The xx quickly made a name for themselves in the UK music scene due to the unexpected buzz around their debut album xx. With xx and their follow-up Coexist, the group established a distinctive sound characterized by haunting, ambiguous lyrics about love and sexuality whispered over minimalist versions of dance music.

Composed of songwriter/vocalists Oliver Sim and Romy Madley Croft along with producer Jamie xx, this South London group has been under the limelight since creating xx at 20 (xx represents the Roman numerals for 20). Baria Qureshi, the bassist/keyboardist who co-founded the group with Oliver, Romy, and Jamie, left the band in late 2009 following a decision by the remaining three members.
