XL Recordings
XL Recordings began in 1989 as a vehicle for rave and dance music, launched by Richard Russell after the label superseded City Beat within the Beggars Group family. Originally an offshoot of City Beat Records, XL developed as an independent label under Russell and his team.
Its roster spans electronic music, pop, experimental projects and band-driven work. Everything Is Recorded reflects Russell’s own collaborative project, while Overmono, Peggy Gou and Danny L Harle connect the label with contemporary electronic music. The Smile, BADBADNOTGOOD and Charlotte Day Wilson point to a broader catalogue that also includes rock, jazz-rooted instrumental work and songwriting-led releases. Young Turks has operated as XL Recordings’ younger partner label.
