Porter Robinson

Porter Robinson's 2014 debut album Worlds reached number one on Billboard's Top Dance/Electronic Albums, a landmark release in a career that had begun with adolescent experiments in electronic production. Born Porter Weston Robinson in Atlanta, Georgia, on July 15, 1992, he was raised in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. He signed with Skrillex's OWSLA label at 18 and released the Spitfire EP in 2011, working in the high-definition, intricately programmed strain of electronic dance music often associated with complextro. Billboard included him in its 21 Under 21 list in 2012.

Worlds brought a broader melodic and pop-minded dimension to Robinson's productions and received critical acclaim. Its release was later cited as an influence on the wider sound of EDM. Robinson won MTVU Artist of the Year in 2015 and appeared in DJ Mag's Top 100 DJs list for seven consecutive years. In 2016, he and the French producer Madeon released “Shelter,” then took the Shelter Live show on tour. The pair received nominations at the inaugural Electronic Music Awards in 2017, for Single of the Year for “Shelter” and Live Act of the Year for the Shelter Live Tour.

Robinson also introduced the alias Virtual Self in 2017, releasing a self-titled EP under the name that year. The Virtual Self track “Ghost Voices” earned him a Grammy nomination for Best Dance Recording. Returning under his own name, he released his second studio album, Nurture, in 2021. It debuted atop Billboard's Top Dance/Electronic Albums and appeared on several year-end lists, including The Fader's “50 Best Albums of 2021,” which it topped. His third album, Smile! :D, arrived in 2024 and was supported by a world tour spanning more than 70 shows across 2024 and 2025. Alongside his work as a DJ and producer, Robinson has recorded as a singer and songwriter, moving between electronic club music, synth-led pop, and more song-focused material.
