Mat Zo
Mat Zo, born Matan Zohar in London, England in 1990, is a Grammy-nominated electronic producer. He is the son of painter Israel Zohar and violinist Wendy Caron Zohar, and the brother of singer Alma Zohar. Growing up in a musically-gifted family, Zohar received his first guitar as a birthday gift from his father at the age of eight. Until age 11, he lived in Cleveland, Ohio, after which he returned to London to deepen his musical pursuits by forming bands and playing drums and bass. During his teenage years, he gravitated towards electronic dance music, drawing inspiration from acts like Chemical Brothers and Daft Punk. Zohar began DJ'ing in London and soon started producing his own tracks.
Zohar's catchy trance and progressive house productions caught the attention of established scene DJs like Airwave, Andy Moor, and Markus Schulz, who began playing his tracks. He released his first single “Exodus” on a:LOUD Recordings at 16. Major trance producers Above & Beyond and Lange also praised his talents during this time, as Zohar continued to release remixes and 12" records. Additionally, he produced drum'n'bass under the alias MRSA on Hospital Records.
He joined the Anjunabeats label, where he released solo projects and mixes. His collaboration with Porter Robinson, "Go Easy," topped the Beatport Charts in 2012 and appeared on his debut LP released in 2013, which topped the Billboard Heatseekers chart. His debut album, Damage Control, received a Grammy nomination for Best Dance/Electronic Album and included contributions from Public Enemy’s Chuck D and singer Rachel Collier. Zohar returned three years later with Self Assemble on his own Mad Zoo label, featuring I See Monstas and Sinead Egan. Shortly after, he released the three-song Mad EP.
