Anjunabeats

Founded in 2000 by Jonathan “Jono” Grant and Paavo Siljamäki, Anjunabeats grew out of the early work that led to Above & Beyond, with Tony McGuinness joining the pair that same year. Named after Anjuna Beach in Goa, India, the label began as a trance-focused outlet, issuing its first release as Anjunabeats and exploring related styles through aliases including Free State and Dirt Devils.

Its sound later widened to include progressive and trance-influenced house while retaining a melodic electronic core. The 2005 launch of Anjunadeep created a separate home for deeper and more progressive material. Above & Beyond and Oliver Smith are among the artists closely associated with Anjunabeats, alongside later releases from acts such as Genix, anamē, Kasablanca and Alex Sonata & TheRio. The label’s Anjunabeats Volume compilations have also documented its changing sound through mixes curated by Above & Beyond and other core artists.
