Spencer Brown

Spencer Brown has built much of his recorded work around the continuous mix album, releasing Illusion of Perfection in 2018, Stream of Consciousness in 2020, and Equanimity in 2023. Born Onofrio Spencer Jeffrey Bruno and raised in Los Gatos, California, he works as an American electronic music producer and DJ, moving between progressive house, progressive trance, melodic house, trance, techno, and acid techno. His releases have reached the top of Beatport’s progressive house, house, techno, trance, and deep house charts.

Brown’s early breakthrough came with the 2014 Chalice EP, released through Avicii’s LE7ELS imprint. Above & Beyond subsequently brought him into the Anjunabeats orbit, where a run of EPs led to Illusion of Perfection. Rather than presenting the record as a conventional collection of radio-length tracks, Brown assembled it as a flowing, uninterrupted mix. He has also released music through Anjunadeep, Bedrock Records, diviine, and Consequence Of Society Recordings.

His work has included collaborations with John Digweed, deadmau5, and Above & Beyond. Brown has received DJ and radio support from Avicii, Above & Beyond, Armin van Buuren, Pete Tong, Hardwell, Danny Howard, Seven Lions, and Gareth Emery. His productions often connect the long-form pacing of progressive dance music with house and techno rhythms, while his DJ sets have leaned toward extended performances built largely around original material rather than fixed pre-planned selections.

Brown made his live debut at Avicii’s 2013 Hollywood Bowl show and later joined the North American True Tour. He has opened for Above & Beyond on the 2018 Common Ground tour and mounted international headline dates in support of Illusion of Perfection, including extended open-to-close sets. His festival appearances have included Tomorrowland in Belgium, EDC Las Vegas, Electric Zoo in New York, Global Dance in Denver, IleSoniq in Montreal, Dreams Festival in Toronto, and Electric Festival Helsinki, alongside club performances at Output in Brooklyn, Echostage in Washington, D.C., Space Miami, and Hï Ibiza.

Alongside his music career, Brown studied Electrical and Computer Engineering at Duke University. He graduated with distinction in 2016 after writing a 47-page thesis on omnidirectional loudspeakers.
