
Kim Petras
Kim Petras (born August 27, 1992) is a German-born singer and songwriter who is currently based in Los Angeles.
Petras first gained attention in 2006 at the age of 13 for discussing her gender transition and advocating for transgender rights in Germany. By the age of 16, she became the youngest known woman to undergo gender reassignment surgery.
Between 2008 and 2011, she released a number of songs online and moved to Los Angeles in 2013 to collaborate with producers like The Stereotypes and Aaron Joseph. After spending several years writing music for herself and other artists, Petras teamed up with established songwriter and producer Dr. Luke, signing with his publishing company, Prescription Songs.
In August 2017, Petras released “I Don’t Want It At All,” followed by sporadic singles over the next two years. She released a Halloween-themed EP, TURN OFF THE LIGHT, VOL. 1 in October 2018, followed by a second EP the following year.
Her Clarity project dropped in 2019, following the release of several singles. In 2020, she mentioned her untitled upcoming project as her “debut album” in an Interview Mag conversation. It's anticipated to release in 2021 and to feature the 2020 single “Malibu.”
