Hugo Leclercq, the musician recognized as Madeon, emerged to many as a teenaged dynamo. In 2011, his dynamic yet meticulously crafted track “Pop Culture” famously sampled 39 hits, live, from Daft Punk to Solange, catapulting the then-17-year-old onto the international scene. By the release of his debut album, Adventure, in 2015, Madeon had become a globally cherished artist with production credits for Lady Gaga and Coldplay.

His first album, released through Columbia and his own label popcultur, still conveys a vibrant sense of wonder about the world. “I intentionally stayed with my parents while creating Adventure because I wanted to encapsulate my teenage life in France,” he explains. “Listening back, it reminds me that sincerity always yields the best results. I wasn’t catering to anyone, just genuinely trying to create what I loved.” A FADER review described it as “expansive, impossibly beautiful… one of the most radiant pop albums in recent memory.” Shortly after, he joined forces with longtime friend Porter Robinson for “Shelter,” an immersive, joyous single he refers to as their “victory lap.”

Years later, Madeon is perhaps a more seasoned artist than the wide-eyed dreamer from Nantes, France – yet he remains as ambitious as ever. “I knew if I wanted to create something different, I needed to change my surroundings,” he states, prompting his move to Los Angeles to recalibrate the project. “I wanted my entire day to revolve around Madeon. My walls are adorned with concept art, logo designs, instruments, references, and records I admire. It’s my full focus from morning until night.”

Good Faith marks this luminous new phase. The album’s tracks are the type of pop songs that typically require collaboration with a team of writers and producers. Madeon, however, wrote and produced them solo. Continuing the journey he started on Adventure with songs like “Home,” he serves as the sole lead vocalist on all the new tracks. “I enjoy creating that style of music mostly on my own – typically, it’s not feasible to achieve it solo,” he remarks.

He began working on the first single, “All My Friends,” during a three-day studio session in New York “just to see what would happen,” he recalls. “I remember walking alone, with the sun casting a particular shade. It struck me vividly, like a flood of sensations: sounds, sights, and scents. I felt an immense confidence and enthusiasm, and the song evolved into a sort of premonition of my path.”

He often appears as much a musician as he is a creator of worlds, and his comprehensive vision for Good Faith is presented in stunning clarity, exemplifying a radiant new mission.

Good Faith, which debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Dance/Electronic Albums chart, was released on November 15, 2019.
