Madeon

Madeon came to widespread attention at 17 with “Pop Culture,” a 2011 YouTube performance in which he assembled 39 popular songs into a real-time mash-up using a Novation Launchpad. The video drew millions of views in its first days online and introduced the Nantes-born producer to an international audience. Born Hugo Pierre Leclercq on 30 May 1994, he works as a musician, DJ, producer, singer and songwriter, and is based in Los Angeles.

Leclercq began releasing music under the Madeon name with the 2012 EP The City. His early work drew on electronic dance music, French house, electropop and disco-informed house, while the Beatles and Daft Punk have been cited as his greatest musical influences. He also worked as a producer for artists including Lady Gaga and Coldplay.

Madeon’s debut studio album, Adventure, arrived in 2015. He made the record while living with his parents in France, saying he wanted to retain the perspective of his teenage life there. The album was supported by a 22-stop North American tour. Its songs combined polished electronic production with pop songwriting, a direction he later developed further as a vocalist as well as a producer.

In 2016, Madeon joined longtime friend Porter Robinson for “Shelter.” The pair received two Electronic Music Awards nominations in 2017, for Single of the Year and Live Act of the Year. Madeon was also ranked at number 105 in DJ Mag’s Top DJs poll that year.

His second album, Good Faith, was released in 2019 alongside the Good Faith Live tour. Madeon wrote and produced the album himself and served as its sole lead vocalist. Its first single, “All My Friends,” began during a three-day studio booking in New York. Released on 15 November 2019, Good Faith debuted at number one on Billboard’s Dance/Electronic Albums chart and later received a nomination for Best Electronic Album at the 2021 Grammy Awards.
