OWSLA
OWSLA is an American record label and creative collective founded in 2011 by Sonny “Skrillex” Moore, Tim Smith, Kathryn Frazier, and Clayton Blaha. Skrillex announced the label on August 17, 2011, positioning it as a home for his work and a broader platform for electronic music releases curated around his circle of collaborators and peers.
The label’s first release was Porter Robinson’s Spitfire, an early signal of OWSLA’s interest in forward-leaning dance music and in developing artists alongside established names. From its start, OWSLA’s identity has been closely associated with Skrillex, both through his role as a founder and through the label’s public profile as an extension of his creative network.
Over time, OWSLA’s roster and affiliations have reflected a wide range of electronic styles, with artists such as Virtual Riot, Boys Noize, and Varg²™ appearing among the notable names connected to the label. The presence of acts like Dylan Brady and Eurohead points to an openness to hybrid approaches that sit between club music, pop-adjacent production, and experimental electronic forms. Alongside these, names such as swedm® and Nakeesha illustrate the label’s function as a platform for newer or less widely known projects within the same general orbit.
OWSLA maintains an official web presence at owsla.com. While it is frequently discussed as a record label, its description as a creative collective reflects a broader branding approach around releases and artist identity, with Skrillex’s announcement and the early association with Porter Robinson’s debut on the imprint serving as key reference points in its public history.
