Ellie Goulding
Elena Jane “Ellie” Goulding (born December 30, 1986) is an English singer-songwriter. In 2010, she became the second artist to simultaneously top the BBC’s annual Sound of… poll and win the Critics' Choice Award at the Brit Awards, succeeding Adele, who achieved both in 2008. Her early music style included elements of folk, pop, electronica, and folktronica.
In July 2009, Goulding signed with Polydor Records and released her debut EP, An Introduction to Ellie Goulding, later that year. Her debut single, “Under The Sheets,” came out in November.
In 2010, Goulding released her first album, Lights, which produced four charting singles in the UK, the most notable being “Starry Eyes,” which reached #4 and charted across many European countries and Australia.
At the end of the year, she released an album reissue titled Bright Lights, which included singles “Lights” and a cover of Elton John’s “Your Song.” “Lights” became an international sensation, peaking at #2 in the United States after a lengthy duration on the charts.
In 2012, her second album, Halcyon, was released, with the leading single “Anything Could Happen” becoming another hit in the U.S.
The reissue, Halcyon Days, was praised for happier themes and EDM exploration, with its lead single, “Burn,” achieving top 20 status in the United States and great international success.
Goulding’s affinity with EDM has been highlighted through collaborations with Calvin Harris on “I Need Your Love” and “Outside,” as well as partnerships with Major Lazer, Clean Bandit, Zedd, Madeon, and Kygo.
At the start of 2015, she released her biggest hit yet, “Love Me Like You Do,” for the 50 Shades of Grey Soundtrack. The acclaimed song topped charts globally and peaked at #3 in the U.S. It earned her a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Solo Performance.
Later in 2015, Goulding expanded her pop repertoire with Delirium. The album embraced club tracks and a poppier sound than her earlier work. Its lead single, “On My Mind,” achieved international success and drew attention for potentially being a response to Ed Sheeran’s “Don’t.” The third single, “Something In The Way You Move,” peaked at #43 on the Hot 100.
In 2018, Goulding began work on her fourth album. “Close To Me,” featuring Diplo and Swae Lee, reached #24 in the U.S., followed by 2019’s “Flux” and “Sixteen,” assumed to be album singles.
In 2020, Goulding released the blackbear collaboration “Worry About Me” and “Power” before unveiling her fourth album, Brightest Blue. This album consisted of two sides: tracks 1 to 13 Brightest Blue, which is introspective and personal, and tracks 14 to 18 EG.0, representing her collaborative pop alter ego. The album debuted at #1 in the U.K. upon release.
