Marshmello
Marshmello is the stage name of Christopher Comstock, the American DJ and record producer whose white, marshmallow-shaped helmet became central to his public image. Before adopting the name Marshmello, Comstock released mashups, remixes and singles as Dotcom on SoundCloud from 2010, building an early following online. He began gaining wider recognition in early 2015 through a run of remixes published under the Marshmello name.
His debut album, Joytime, arrived in 2016 and included “Keep It Mello,” his first commercial single. That same year, “Alone,” released through Monstercat, became a major breakthrough: it reached number 28 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earned a quintuple-platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America. Marshmello’s productions draw on synth-led, bass-heavy electronic dance music with a strong sense of groove, while his collaborations have regularly crossed into pop, R&B and hip-hop.
In 2017, he released “Chasing Colors,” “Twinbow” and “Moving On,” then collaborated with Khalid on “Silence.” The track received platinum or multi-platinum certifications in eight countries. Later that year, he teamed with Selena Gomez for “Wolves,” another international hit. His 2018 collaboration with Anne-Marie, “Friends,” extended that run, while his second studio album, Joytime II, was supported by “Tell Me” and “Check This Out.”
“Happier,” his 2018 collaboration with Bastille, became Marshmello’s highest-charting Billboard Hot 100 single, reaching number two. In 2020, “Come & Go,” made with Juice Wrld for the rapper’s posthumous album Legends Never Die, matched that peak. Forbes ranked Marshmello second on its 2019 list of the highest-paid DJs, reporting earnings of US$40 million. His fourth album, Shockwave, earned him a Grammy nomination in 2021.
Although Marshmello’s identity was initially unknown to much of the public, Forbes confirmed Comstock as the person behind the helmet in April 2017. Outside the project, he founded the pop-punk band Underbrook, where he serves as lead vocalist.
