Future became the first hip-hop artist to place three number-one albums on the Billboard 200 in the same year, doing so in 2024 with the Metro Boomin collaborations We Don’t Trust You and We Still Don’t Trust You, followed by Mixtape Pluto. Born Nayvadius DeMun Cash, né Wilburn, on November 20, 1983, he was raised in Atlanta, Georgia and developed into one of trap music’s defining rap-singers. His Auto-Tuned delivery, mumble-style phrasing and sustained run of mixtapes and albums helped bring that vocal approach into the genre’s mainstream.

Future signed with Rocko’s A1 Recordings in 2011, shortly before the label entered a joint venture with Epic Records. His early studio albums Pluto in 2012 and Honest in 2014 both found commercial and critical success. They produced platinum-certified singles including “Turn On the Lights,” “Honest,” “Move That Dope,” featuring Pharrell Williams and Pusha T, and “I Won,” featuring Kanye West. His 2015 album DS2 was supported by “Where Ya At” with Drake, while 2016’s Evol included “Low Life” with the Weeknd.

In 2017, Future and its follow-up Hndrxx arrived one week apart and made him the first musical act to release two Billboard 200 chart-toppers in consecutive weeks. The self-titled album included “Mask Off,” his first Billboard Hot 100 top-ten single. That period also followed a busy mixtape run: 2015 brought Beast Mode with Zaytoven, 56 Nights with Southside, and What a Time to Be Alive with Drake, whose single “Jumpman” became a major release. He later issued full-length collaborations with Young Thug, Juice Wrld and Lil Uzi Vert, including Super Slimey, Wrld on Drugs and Pluto x Baby Pluto.

After leaving A1, Future released The Wizrd in 2019 and High Off Life in 2020. The latter produced “Life Is Good,” his diamond-certified collaboration with Drake. He reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 for the first time as a guest alongside Young Thug on Drake’s 2021 single “Way 2 Sexy,” after a record-breaking 125 Hot 100 entries. His 2022 album I Never Liked You yielded “Wait for U” with Drake and Tems, his second chart-topper and first as a lead artist; the song won Best Melodic Rap Performance at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards. Future has received three Grammy Awards from 15 nominations and holds the record for the most number-one albums on the US Top Rap Albums chart, with 16.
