Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, born on February 16, 1990, in Scarborough, Ontario, is better known as The Weeknd. He is a singer-songwriter and record producer from Toronto, Canada, renowned for his contributions to R&B, pop, and hip-hop music. Throughout his career, he has been hailed as a standout musical talent, often compared to Michael Jackson.

The Weeknd initially gained widespread acclaim with his mixtapes—House of Balloons, Thursday, and Echoes of Silence. These were later compiled into a remastered album titled Trilogy after he signed with Republic Records. His debut studio album, Kiss Land, was released in 2013.

In 2014, he released songs such as "Often," a remix of Beyonce's "Drunk In Love," and "King of the Fall." He also contributed two songs to the Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack, with "Earned It" emerging as a major hit.

His highly-anticipated second studio album included hit singles like "The Hills" and "Can’t Feel My Face," culminating in the release of Beauty Behind the Madness on August 28, 2015.

The third studio album, Starboy, was released on November 25, 2016, featuring the hit title track assisted by Daft Punk. This album topped the Billboard 200 chart and received a GRAMMY for Best Urban Contemporary Album, cementing his status in the music industry.

His EP, My Dear Melancholy, released on March 30, 2018, touched on themes of past breakups and included "Call Out My Name," which achieved significant streaming success.

The Weeknd's fourth studio album, After Hours, released on March 20, 2020, included successful singles like "Heartless" and "Blinding Lights." The album further solidified his global reach.

In 2021, he released The Highlights, a compilation that coincided with his Super Bowl halftime performance.

Following After Hours, he released Dawn FM on January 7, 2022. The album, prefaced by the single "Take My Breath," imagines a narrative journey between life and death.

On February 24, 2023, he released a remix of his track "Die for You" featuring Ariana Grande, which topped the Billboard Hot 100.

In 2023, he co-created and starred in the TV series The Idol, despite its mixed reviews, the soundtrack's songs found commercial success.
