slowthai
slowthai, whose name combines his personal name and a childhood speech impediment that resulted in a mumbling manner, as noted in his Radar Radio interview, is also known as Tyron Kaymone Frampton (born 18 December 1994). He is an English MC known for his aggressive, gritty, and nihilistic perspective on the contemporary UK rap scene.
Raised on a Northampton council estate by a single mother, he pursued music from a young age. The Northampton artist's debut EP, I Wish I Knew, was well-received with outlets like Pitchfork and Complex recognizing him as an artist to watch in 2018.
His music frequently addresses politically charged themes, exemplified by a tour he named “Brexit Bandit” and his multiple mentions of Theresa May, influenced by his challenging upbringing and anti-establishment views. He has expressed a desire to "change the world in some way, shape, or form." More can be found at NME.
In 2019, he released his debut album, Nothing Great About Britain, featuring prominent British artists like Skepta, Mura Masa, and Jaykae. This release marked his most successful to date, receiving a 5-star review from Guardian music critic Alexis Petridis.
His second album, TYRON, was released in 2021, including collaborations with artists such as Denzel Curry, A$AP Rocky, and another feature from Skepta.
