Slowthai, born Tyron Kaymone Frampton on 18 December 1994, emerged from Northampton with a raw strain of British rap built around gritty, rough instrumentals and politically charged lyrics. Raised in the town, he came to wider prominence in 2019 and placed fourth in the BBC Sound of 2019 poll.

That year he released his debut studio album, Nothing Great About Britain, a record whose title matched the confrontational edge of his writing. The album was nominated for the Mercury Prize. At the 2019 Mercury Prize ceremony, Slowthai performed while holding a fake severed head of then-British prime minister Boris Johnson, an act that prompted controversy.

He followed the debut with Tyron in 2021 and Ugly in 2023. Working across grime, hip hop, rap and trap, Slowthai's music has remained closely tied to the blunt delivery and politically pointed approach that brought him to prominence.
