Denzel Curry
Denzel Rae Don Curry, better known as Denzel Curry, was born in Carol City, Florida on February 16, 1995. He is of Bahamian and Native American heritage.
He began rapping in the 6th grade and often engaged in rap battles at a local Boys & Girls club. Initially, he attended Miami’s Design and Architecture High School for two years before being expelled. He later enrolled in Carol City High School while working on his debut album, Nostalgic 64.
During 2011-2012, he uploaded various amateur mixtapes on platforms like SoundCloud and DatPiff, including King Remembered in 2011 and Strictly For my R.V.I.D.X.R.Z in 2012, which caught the attention of Earl Sweatshirt.
After the group disbanded, he joined SpaceGhostPurrp’s Raider Klan. Following several disagreements with Purrp, he left the group and started his solo career, coinciding with the release of SpaceGhostPurrp’s 2016 diss-track "PURRPOSELY."
His debut album, Nostalgic 64, was released in September 2013, followed by a double-sided EP, 32 Zel/Planet Shrooms, in June 2015, which featured the gold-certified breakout single “ULTIMATE.”
The last release before a hiatus was his second studio album/mixtape hybrid, Imperial, launched in March 2016.
On July 17, Denzel released his third studio album, TA13OO, divided into three acts over three days: “Light” on July 15, “Gray” on July 16, and “Dark” on July 17, along with the complete album — it became his first charting album worldwide, peaking at #28 on the Billboard 200 and receiving positive reviews.
Almost a year after TA13OO, on May 31, 2019, Curry released his fourth studio album, ZUU, inspired by life in Carol City and Miami culture, featuring Rick Ross, Kiddo Marv, Sam Sneak, and Ice Billion Berg. The album's supporting singles included the gold-certified “RICKY” and “SPEEDBOAT.”
On February 7, 2020, Denzel collaborated with Kenny Beats for their 8-track project, UNLOCKED, and exactly a year later, on March 5, 2021, they released UNLOCKED 1.5, a re-edition of the project.
Nearly three years after his previous album, on March 25, 2022, Denzel released his fifth studio album, Melt My Eyez, See Your Future, marking his musical evolution. The 14-track album included three promotional singles: “Walkin,” “Zatoichi” featuring slowthai, and “Troubles” with T-Pain.
