Shygirl
Shygirl, born Blane Muise on 4 May 1993, emerged from London’s experimental club music world through her work with Sega Bodega and the Nuxxe collective and label, which she co-founded and co-heads. A singer, rapper, songwriter and DJ, she began releasing singles in 2016, building a catalogue that moves between dance music, hip-hop, grime, experimental pop and deconstructed club production.
Her early work was closely linked to Sega Bodega, a friend and frequent collaborator, while collaborations and creative exchanges with producers including Arca and Sophie helped bring her music to a wider audience. Nuxxe tracks also reached Rihanna, who used several of them in Fenty Beauty commercials and fashion shows. Shygirl has been associated with hyperpop, though her recordings draw on a broader set of club, bass and R&B-informed sounds.
Before releasing a full-length album, Shygirl issued the EPs Cruel Practice, Alias and Club Shy. Her debut studio album, Nymph, arrived on 30 September 2022 and received widespread critical acclaim. Alongside her solo work, she has collaborated with artists including Sophie, Arca, Mura Masa, FKA twigs and Lady Gaga.
