Kelela Mizanekristos is an American singer whose work joins alternative R&B with electronic production, breakbeats, ambient textures, trip hop and house. Born in Washington, D.C., on June 4, 1983, she made her music-industry debut with the 2013 mixtape Cut 4 Me.

She followed it with the 2015 EP Hallucinogen, a release structured around the beginning, middle and end of a relationship in reverse chronological order. Her debut studio album, Take Me Apart, arrived in 2017 and received critical acclaim. The album's release followed collaborations including work with Solange on “Scales,” the closing track of A Seat at the Table, and with Gorillaz.

After a five-year hiatus, Kelela returned with her second album, Raven, in February 2023. Her third studio album, New Avatar, was released in July 2026. Alongside her vocal work, she has credits as a producer, mixing engineer, recording engineer and executive producer.
