Meduza broke through in 2019 with “Piece of Your Heart,” their collaboration with British production trio Goodboys. The single reached number two on the UK Singles Chart and earned a Grammy Award nomination for Best Dance Recording. It also became one of the Italian house trio’s biggest records, passing 1 billion Spotify streams.

The group consists of Luca de Gregorio, Mattia Vitale and Simone Giani, who began making music together in 2014 after each had worked separately as a DJ and electronic-music producer. Their musical backgrounds were distinct: Vitale grew up around rock and funk through his father, a DJ in the 1970s; Giani studied piano at Milan’s music conservatory; and de Gregorio began studying piano at six. Based in Milan, the three combined those experiences in a dance-pop and house-focused production partnership.

After “Piece of Your Heart,” Meduza released a remix of RITUAL and Emily Warren’s “Using” in July 2019. Their next major single, “Lose Control,” reunited them with Goodboys and added British singer Becky Hill. The track reached number 15 on the UK Singles Chart and later passed 1 billion Spotify streams. “Paradise” has also accumulated more than 841 million streams, while Meduza’s recordings have surpassed 5 billion streams in total on the platform.

Meduza received the International Dance Music Award for Best Dance Song in 2020. On November 11 that year, they performed a live set at Cava dei Balestrieri in San Marino, streamed on Twitch in partnership with Live Nation and the Fuser video game.
