Khalid Donnel Robinson, known professionally as Khalid, broke through with the 2016 single “Location,” released through Courtney Stewart’s Right Hand Music Group, an imprint of RCA Records. The song reached the top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100 and earned diamond certification from the Recording Industry Association of America. Its 2017 follow-up, “Young Dumb & Broke,” also became a top-20 hit and received diamond certification.

An American singer and songwriter from El Paso, Texas, Khalid was born on February 11, 1998. His debut studio album, American Teen, arrived in 2017 following the success of his early singles. The album was both a critical and commercial success, earned quadruple-platinum RIAA certification, and received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Urban Contemporary Album at the 60th Annual Grammy Awards.

In 2017, Khalid joined Alessia Cara on Logic’s “1-800-273-8255,” a hit single that brought him a Grammy nomination for Song of the Year. He expanded his run of collaborations the following year with “Love Lies,” recorded with Normani, and “Eastside,” with Benny Blanco and Halsey. Both tracks reached the Billboard Hot 100 top ten and set the record for the longest-charting songs on the Mainstream Top 40 chart. Later in 2018, “Better” became his third top-ten single and led into the EP Suncity.

Khalid’s second studio album, Free Spirit, debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 in 2019. Its lead single, “Talk,” reached number three on the Billboard Hot 100, his highest-charting song to date, and received a Grammy nomination for Record of the Year. His awards and nominations include six Grammy Award nominations, six Billboard Music Awards, three American Music Awards, and an MTV Video Music Award. In 2019, Time named him among its 100 Most Influential People.
