Avicii
Tim Bergling, known professionally as Avicii (born September 8, 1989 – died April 20, 2018), was a Swedish record producer and DJ who transformed the EDM scene, significantly shaping the genre with tracks like “Levels” and “Wake Me Up.” Gifted in crafting melodies, he introduced new elements to the electronic music sphere, elevating it to global prominence.
Avicii's stage name originated from a conversation with a friend who explained that Avichi referred to the lowest level of Buddhist hell. Liking the sound of it, he adopted the name since his birth name was already taken on Myspace. Bergling collaborated with a diverse range of artists, covering nearly all music genres, achieving widespread recognition with numerous multi-platinum hits and several chart-topping singles worldwide.
After his 2016 Ultra Music Festival performance, he announced his retirement from live shows by the end of the year. Avicii's unique sound and unparalleled drive were evident in his work.
On April 20, 2018, Avicii tragically took his own life. His family released a statement saying he "could not go on any longer." He had previously struggled with health issues like pancreatitis from excessive drinking, and in 2014, he underwent gallbladder removal surgery after it ruptured, vowing to stop drinking. Avicii also overextended himself, spending over 60 hours consecutively in the studio and performing 220 DJ sets in 261 weeks, which might have contributed to his untimely death.
On April 5, 2019, it was announced that some of Avicii's incomplete projects would be released in a posthumous album titled TIM on June 6, with the first posthumous single, “SOS,” available on April 10. This was followed by “Tough Love” released on May 9, 2019, before the full album was made available on June 6, 2019.
