Kali Uchis

Kali Uchis, born Karly Marina Loaiza on July 17, 1994, is an American singer-songwriter whose work moves between R&B, soul, alternative pop and Latin music. Also a record producer, music video director and fashion designer, she emerged with a visual and musical approach informed by a 1950s aesthetic, citing Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald among her influences. She grew up playing saxophone and piano, and began learning music production and video editing while in high school.

Uchis released her debut mixtape, Drunken Babble, in 2012, followed by the EP Por Vida in 2015. The latter brought wider recognition and led into her first studio album, Isolation, released through Virgin EMI Records in 2018. The album reached number 34 on the Billboard 200 and received widespread acclaim. Its songs drew on the varied soul traditions present in her earlier work, including doo-wop, reggae, funk, quiet storm and psychedelia.

After signing with Interscope Records, Uchis released Sin Miedo (del Amor y Otros Demonios) in 2020, her second studio album and first Spanish-language project. The record produced “Telepatía,” a song that gained traction on TikTok, reached number 25 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became her first entry on that chart. It was certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America.

Her subsequent albums climbed higher on the Billboard 200. Red Moon in Venus, released in 2023, peaked at number four, while Orquídeas in 2024 and Sincerely in 2025 both reached number two. Her awards include a Grammy Award, an American Music Award and two Billboard Music Awards, alongside five Latin Grammy Award nominations. As of 2026, her albums and songs had accumulated more than 29 million RIAA-certified units.
