Green Velvet is the stage name of Chicago-born DJ, singer and producer Curtis Alan Jones, also known for his work as Cajmere. He emerged from the city’s house music culture in the 1990s, scoring a 1993 hit as Cajmere with “Brighter Days,” featuring vocalist Dajaé.

Jones created the Green Velvet alias for instrumental productions and DJ work, then built a run of club records including “Preacher Man,” “Flash,” “The Stalker” and “Answering Machine.” He founded Cajual Records and later its Relief Records sublabel, which released work by artists including DJ Sneak, Gemini and Paul Johnson alongside his own productions. Green Velvet’s first album arrived in 1999, followed by Whatever on Relief Records in 2001.
