Massano
Sam Rose wrote "The Feeling" in four hours. Released in 2020 on Running Clouds, the track tore through the melodic techno world and turned the Liverpool producer, performing under the name Massano, from a university student with marketing internship applications out to labels like Universal Music Group into one of the genre's fastest-rising acts.
Rose grew up on the outskirts of Liverpool, introduced to electronic music as a child by a father who played him Faithless and The Prodigy. While studying at Lancaster University, he started producing during breaks between lectures, initially unsure he could succeed as a composer. He considered any foothold in the music industry, even working doors at events, just to learn how things ran. The stage name came from rearranging the letters of his real name until something stuck.
After "The Feeling" broke, Massano's trajectory accelerated. His debut EP on Tale of Us' Afterlife label, "In My System" (2022), hit number one on the Beatport releases chart, with the track "Drown" cracking the overall Top 10 across all genres. He followed that with releases on Adam Beyer's Drumcode Records, including the "Telepathic" EP, and earned high-profile remix commissions from Depeche Mode ("Ghosts Again") and Royksopp ("Control"), both in 2023. That September, he recorded a two-hour Essential Mix for BBC Radio 1, a milestone he described as deeply personal given that Radio 1's dance programming shaped his musical taste growing up.
In 2023, Massano founded Simulate Recordings, his own imprint built around the concept that technology and philosophical exploration can drive electronic music forward. He launched it with "The Theory" EP. The label has since hosted collaborations with CamelPhat, including the "Oblivion" EP featuring vocalists Nu-La and David O'Dowda. His earlier label, Eternity Sounds, served as a platform for emerging underground artists and housed his first single, "Visitors."
Massano's live schedule has matched his studio output. He has played Tomorrowland, Printworks, Fabric, Creamfields, Time Warp, the Warehouse Project, and Wembley Arena. On New Year's Eve 2024, he opened for Anyma at the Sphere in Las Vegas, performing tracks like "The Feeling" and "Shut Down" inside the venue's immersive visual environment. In April 2025, he released his debut album, "Natural," a 15-track project on Simulate featuring collaborations with Anyma, CamelPhat, and Stephan Bodzin. He accompanied it with a 55-minute visual film stitching together unique visual treatments for each track.
