Justin Timberlake
Justin Randall Timberlake, born January 31, 1981, is an American singer, songwriter, actor, record producer and dancer from Memphis. He first appeared on Star Search as a child, then joined Disney Channel’s The All New Mickey Mouse Club from 1993 to 1995. In the late 1990s, he rose to fame with NSYNC, one of the best-selling boy bands of all time.
Timberlake began his solo career with Justified in 2002, working frequently with The Neptunes and Timbaland. Justified and its 2006 follow-up, FutureSex/LoveSounds, each sold more than 10 million copies and received triple-platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America. FutureSex/LoveSounds became his first album to debut at number one on the Billboard 200 and produced the Hot 100 number-one singles “SexyBack,” “My Love” and “What Goes Around... Comes Around.” He later earned a fourth US number one as a featured artist on Timbaland’s “Give It to Me.”
His subsequent albums, The 20/20 Experience and The 20/20 Experience – 2 of 2, both released in 2013, and Man of the Woods in 2018, also topped the Billboard 200. The 20/20 Experience was the best-selling album in the United States in 2013. His sixth album, Everything I Thought It Was, arrived in 2024 and peaked in the top five. Across his recordings, Timberlake has worked in pop and R&B while maintaining a long-running creative relationship with hip-hop producers including Timbaland and The Neptunes.
Alongside music, Timberlake built a substantial acting career. His film roles include Shrek the Third, The Love Guru, The Social Network, Bad Teacher, Friends with Benefits, In Time, Wonder Wheel, Palmer and Reptile. In 2016, he began voicing Branch in the Trolls film franchise. “Can’t Stop the Feeling!,” recorded for the first Trolls soundtrack, became his fifth US number-one single and received an Academy Award nomination.
Timberlake’s awards include ten Grammy Awards, four Primetime Emmy Awards, three Brit Awards, nine Billboard Music Awards, seven American Music Awards and eleven MTV Video Music Awards, including the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. In 2019, the Songwriters Hall of Fame presented him with its Contemporary Icon Award, and Berklee College of Music awarded him an honorary Doctor of Music degree. He also has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame as a member of NSYNC. Time included him among the world’s 100 most influential people in 2007, while Billboard ranked him among the greatest pop stars of the 21st century in 2023.
