Eliza Rose reached number one on the UK Singles Chart in September 2022 with “B.O.T.A. (Baddest of Them All),” her collaboration with DJ and producer Interplanetary Criminal. The track had entered the chart on 29 July after gaining momentum in London clubs and at Glastonbury Festival 2022, and was certified platinum by the British Phonographic Industry that December. Rose became the first female DJ to top the UK Singles Chart since Sonique in 2000. “B.O.T.A.” was also the UK’s number one single on the day Queen Elizabeth II died and King Charles III’s reign began.

Born on 28 November 1991, Rose grew up in Dalston after being born in London’s East End. She began working at Flashback Records at 14, an early connection to the records that would shape her work as a DJ. A longtime listener to soul and jazz, she sang from a young age and began DJing in her late teens once she could afford to buy records, partly as a way of bringing more music into her life. She later attended college and university and took music-production courses.

Rose writes, produces and sings across club-focused dance music, drawing on house, UK garage, jungle, soul and R&B. For “B.O.T.A.,” Interplanetary Criminal sent her the instrumental and she wrote its lyrics with Pam Grier’s role in the film Coffy as an inspiration. Alongside her own releases and collaborations, she presents a radio show for The Vinyl Factory. She has also written the novel What Happens in Dreamland.
