HI-LO is the techno alias of Rotterdam-born Dutch DJ and producer Olivier J. L. Heldens, born 1 February 1995. The name comes from “Oli H” written in reverse. While Heldens is widely associated with future house under his own name, HI-LO is the project through which he releases techno, including acid-leaning and big-room-oriented material.

Heldens first became known internationally through future-house records and chart successes including “Gecko (Overdrive),” “Last All Night (Koala),” “The Right Song,” “Fire in My Soul,” and “Turn Me On.” Wikipedia describes him as a pioneer of future house, a style he helped bring to wider international attention. His work as HI-LO runs alongside that catalog rather than replacing it, focusing on club-built electronic tracks with a techno emphasis.

HI-LO’s releases have been connected with labels including Drumcode, Filth on Acid, Armada Music and Alteza Records, as well as HILOMATIK, the label Heldens later launched. The project sits within a wider body of work that includes house, electro house and Dutch house, but HI-LO remains specifically identified with techno production.
