A State of Trance

A State of Trance is the record-label arm of Armin van Buuren’s long-running Dutch trance radio and event brand. Built around the weekly show that first aired on 1 June 2001, the imprint sits within a wider ASOT world that also includes annual mix compilations, year mixes and festival events.

The radio programme provides the label’s musical frame: a two-hour weekly selection of new trance, progressive trance, uplifting trance, vocal trance and progressive house. Van Buuren hosts the show alongside Ruben de Ronde, while Ferry Corsten has appeared as a monthly resident and presenter. Their involvement links the label directly to the DJs and producers shaping the programme’s sound.

As one of Armada Music’s early imprints, A State of Trance has served as a home for music associated with van Buuren’s broadcast and its club-focused trance identity. Its releases connect established names including van Buuren, de Ronde and Corsten with the continually refreshed musical current of the ASOT show, where new records are introduced to listeners each week.

Though rooted in the Netherlands, A State of Trance was built for an international radio audience. The livestream is carried and re-aired by affiliated stations, sometimes in edited or locally formatted versions, while the label remains part of a broader platform spanning radio, recorded music and large-scale dance events.
