Dua Lipa is a British-Albanian singer-songwriter born on August 22, 1995, in London. She is the daughter of Albanian rock musician Dukagjin Lipa. At 11, she relocated to Kosovo but returned to the UK at 15 to attend Sylvia Young Theatre School part-time. Posting covers of artists like Nelly Furtado, Chance The Rapper, and Rihanna led to her signing with Warner Records (Vertigo/Captiol for Germany, Austria, and Switzerland), releasing her debut single "New Love." "Be The One" followed and became a breakout hit in mainland Europe, leading to a spot on the BBC Sound of 2016 list and a BRITs Critics Choice Award nomination.

In 2016, she gained UK fame with "Hotter Than Hell" and entered the Billboard Hot 100 with "Blow Your Mind (Mwah)." Collaborations with Martin Garrix and Sean Paul on "Scared to Be Lonely" and "No Lie" in 2017 further raised her profile. Her self-titled debut album, released on June 2, debuted at #5 in the UK and #86 in the US, receiving praise for her vocals and confidence. The album's sixth single, "New Rules," became a global hit, topping UK charts and staying in the top 5 for 10 weeks. In early 2018, "IDGAF" achieved similar success, and she won two BRIT Awards, including Best Breakthrough Act. She continued her streak with "One Kiss" featuring Calvin Harris and ended 2018 with a Complete Edition reissue of her album.

In 2019, Dua Lipa worked on her second studio album, "Future Nostalgia," which released on March 27, 2020, to critical acclaim. Influenced by disco and pop artists like Moloko, Kylie Minogue, Madonna, and OutKast, its lead single "Don’t Start Now" became a worldwide success, marking her seventh UK Top 10 single and her second in the US. "Physical" followed as the second single in January 2020, becoming her eighth UK Top 10 single, with "Break My Heart" as the third single.

At the 63rd Grammy Awards, Dua Lipa was nominated for five Grammys: Record of the Year and Song of the Year for "Don't Start Now," Album of the Year for "Future Nostalgia," Best Pop Solo Performance for "Don't Start Now," and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for "UN DÍA (ONE DAY)." She won for her album "Future Nostalgia."

Known for her sultry vocals, dark storylines, and honest lyricism, Dua Lipa describes her music as "dark pop." Her biggest influence is Canadian pop singer Nelly Furtado, especially her album "Whoa, Nelly!", with other influences including Pink, J. Cole, David Bowie, 2Pac, Kendrick Lamar, Bob Dylan, 50 Cent, and A$AP Rocky, impacting both her songwriting and vocal delivery.
