Dua Lipa
Dua Lipa’s 2020 album Future Nostalgia made her first UK number-one album and placed in the US top three, extending a run that had already made her one of British pop’s most successful artists. Born in London on 22 August 1995, Lipa worked as a model before moving into music and signing with Warner Bros. Records in 2014. Before her recording career took off, she spent time in Kosovo and later returned to the UK to attend the Sylvia Young Theatre School part-time.
Her self-titled debut album arrived in 2017 and reached number three on the UK Albums Chart. It produced the singles “Be the One,” “IDGAF,” and “New Rules,” the last of which became her first UK number-one single. In 2018, she received Brit Awards for British Female Solo Artist and British Breakthrough Act. That year also brought “One Kiss,” her collaboration with Calvin Harris, which became the UK’s best-selling song of 2018 and won the Brit Award for Song of the Year.
Lipa received the Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 2019, as well as Best Dance Recording for “Electricity,” featuring Silk City. With its disco-informed pop approach, Future Nostalgia yielded “Don’t Start Now,” “Physical,” “Break My Heart,” and “Levitating.” “Don’t Start Now” logged the longest top-ten stay on the UK Singles Chart for a British female artist, while “Levitating” topped the Billboard year-end Hot 100 chart for 2021 and received RIAA Diamond certification in the United States. Future Nostalgia won the Brit Award for British Album of the Year and the Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Album.
She followed with further UK number-one singles through the Elton John duet “Cold Heart (Pnau remix)” in 2021 and “Dance the Night,” recorded for the 2023 film Barbie. Lipa also made her acting debut in Barbie and took a supporting role in the 2024 spy film Argylle. Her third studio album, Radical Optimism, was released in 2024 and debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart, preceded by the UK top-ten singles “Houdini,” “Training Season,” and “Illusion.” Her awards include seven Brit Awards and three Grammy Awards.
