Deadmau5, the stage name of Canadian producer and DJ Joel Thomas Zimmerman, broke through with 2008's Random Album Title, a release certified gold in Canada and silver in the United Kingdom. Its tracks included “Faxing Berlin” and “I Remember,” his collaboration with Kaskade. Zimmerman won a Juno Award for the album, as well as for “All U Ever Want,” recorded with Billy Newton-Davis.

Born January 5, 1981, in Niagara Falls, Canada, Zimmerman works primarily in progressive house and electro house while also moving through other forms of electronic music. He performs and releases techno as Testpilot, and is widely associated with his custom “mau5head” helmet. In 2007 he founded the label Mau5trap, which became a platform for his work and related electronic releases.

His 2009 album For Lack of a Better Name included “Ghosts ’n’ Stuff” with Rob Swire of Pendulum, “Hi Friend” featuring MC Flipside, and “Strobe.” The record earned him another Juno Award. He followed it with 4×4=12 in 2010, supported by “Some Chords,” “Animal Rights” with Wolfgang Gartner, “Sofi Needs a Ladder” with Sofi, and “Raise Your Weapon” featuring Greta Svabo Bech. Album Title Goes Here arrived in 2012 with “The Veldt,” featuring Chris James, and “Professional Griefers,” made with Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance.

After leaving Ultra Records, Zimmerman released While(1<2) in 2014, featuring singles including “Avaritia” and “Seeya” with Colleen D’Agostino of The Material. Following a brief hiatus, he returned with W:/2016Album/, which included “Snowcone” and “Let Go” featuring Grabbitz. He composed the score for the 2019 action film Polar, and later released “Pomegranate” with the Neptunes and “Bridged by a Lightwave” featuring Kiesza. His collaborations have also included work with Steve Duda in BSOD, Tommy Lee and DJ Aero in WTF?, Kaskade in Kx5, and Rezz in Rezzmau5. Zimmerman has received seven Grammy Award nominations and won four Juno Awards.
