Westend
Westend represented Austria at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1983 with “Hurricane”, a synth-pop song with schlager elements. The group was formed for the contest, and “Hurricane” was both its first and last collaboration.
The song was composed by Peter Vieweger, with lyrics by Heli Deinboek and Heinz Nessizius. Austria’s broadcaster ORF selected it through a national final for the 1983 Eurovision Song Contest. Westend’s onstage performance featured male vocalists alongside dancer Patricia Tandien, rather than the all-male lineup sometimes associated with early boy-band comparisons.
Westend’s members included Gary Lux, Peter Vieweger, René Wulff and Bernhard Rabitsch. Their brief Eurovision-era project remains tied to “Hurricane” and Austria’s 1983 entry.
