MK

Marc Kinchen, known as MK, is an American DJ, record producer and remixer from Detroit whose 2013 remix of Storm Queen’s “Look Right Through” reached number one on the UK Singles Chart. Released through Defected Records and Warner Music, the track marked a major UK chart success for a producer whose work had long moved between underground house records, club remixes and pop-facing dance music.

Born on August 3, 1972, Kinchen first made his name with recordings credited to MK featuring vocalist Alana Simon. Their songs “Always” and “Love Changes” both reached number one on Billboard’s Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart in 1993 and 1994. The pair also recorded “Burning,” an underground house anthem, while “Always” reached number 69 on the UK Singles Chart in February 1995. Kinchen also reached the dance chart under the name 4th Measure Men with “4 You.”

His remix work became a parallel part of his career during the 1990s. Kinchen remixed Céline Dion’s “Misled,” giving Dion her first number-one hit on Billboard’s Dance/Club Play chart. His reworking of Betty Boo’s “Thing Goin’ On” took the song to number five on that chart, while his remix of Sofia Shinas’ “The Message” reached number 20. He also produced remixes for Jody Watley’s “Your Love Keeps Working On Me,” which rose to number two.

Kinchen is also responsible for the remix of Nightcrawlers’ “Push the Feeling On,” which became an international success and reached number three in the UK. He later assisted Nightcrawlers frontman John Reid on further releases. His production and remix credits have included work involving Lana Del Rey, Dev, Enrique Iglesias, Sky Ferreira, Ellie Goulding, Jamie Jones, Lee Foss and Tricky.

In April 2021, MK scored his first number one on Billboard’s Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart as a featured artist on Anabel Englund’s “Underwater,” which he co-produced.
