BANKS

Banks, the stage name of Los Angeles singer and songwriter Jillian Rose Banks, broke through with her 2014 debut album Goddess, which reached number 12 on the Billboard 200. Its single “Beggin for Thread” was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America, bringing a wider audience to her shadowy, electronic-leaning R&B and pop.

Born June 16, 1988, Banks first released the EPs Fall Over and London in 2013. She subsequently signed with Harvest Records and issued Goddess the following year to positive reviews. Her songwriting and vocal work have moved across alternative R&B, electropop, downtempo electronic music and more intimate pop forms.

Her second album, The Altar, arrived in 2016 and peaked at number 17 on the Billboard 200. Banks followed it with III in 2019, which reached number 21 and received the strongest critical response of her first three albums. After leaving Harvest Records, she released Serpentina independently in 2022. The record pursued a more experimental direction than her earlier work and drew favorable reviews, despite more modest commercial results.

In 2025, Banks released her fifth studio album, Off with Her Head. Often styled as BANKS, she has maintained a career built around close-miked vocals, emotionally direct songwriting and production that connects R&B with electronic and alternative pop.
