Chet Faker
Chet Faker is the recurring stage name used by Australian electronic musician and singer, Nick Murphy. The name Chet Faker pays homage to Chet Baker, the American jazz musician.
Murphy gained significant popularity with his cover of Blackstreet's “No Diggity,” which hit number one on the Hypemachine chart in May 2011. He followed up with his debut EP, Thinking In Textures, in the following year, earning critical praise for skillfully "mixing subtlety with impressive beauty."
Murphy then released his next single, “I’m Into You,” which boosted his recognition further by reaching number 24 on Triple J’s “Hottest 100 of 2012.”
The single “Melt” featuring Kilo Kish came out in 2013, and later that year, he teamed up with Flume to produce his second extended play, “Lockjaw.”
Murphy's eagerly awaited first album, Built On Glass, was released on 11 April 2014, with its leading single available for pre-order prior to the complete album launch.
The first album, you’re supposed to showcase all facets of yourself. That is a major part of my life. So, I felt that if I didn’t include it now, people would be puzzled, further down the line. I wanted it out sooner rather than later.
