It started when I heard a beat from Cardo, someone I've admired for a long time. The beat gave me newfound confidence, and I just felt like calling myself “Baby Keem.” I often joke around with fake nicknames, but that beat made it feel right, so I created a song called “Baby Keem.” From there, the name stuck.
He began his rap journey as Hykeem Carter, releasing his first album Oct in 2016. By 2018, he adopted the name Baby Keem. He gained recognition with projects like Hearts and Darts and The Sound of Bad Habit. His 2019 mixtape DIE FOR MY BITCH and the breakout single “ORANGE SODA,” which went platinum, made further waves.
In 2021, he dropped The Melodic Blue, his first studio album featuring Kendrick Lamar, Travis Scott, and Don Toliver.
Keem is Kendrick Lamar’s cousin and is affiliated with Kendrick’s company, pgLang.
