Fred again..
Frederick John Philip Gibson, known professionally as Fred Again (stylized as Fred again..), was born on July 19, 1993, in Balham, South London. He attended the private boarding school Marlborough College in Wiltshire between 2006 and 2011. His parents are Charles Anthony Warneford Gibson KC, a barrister, and Mary Ann Frances Morgan. His maternal lineage includes notable figures such as Sir John Morgan KCMG and the Hon. Fionn O'Neill, daughter of British socialite Ann Charteris and Anglo-Irish aristocrat Shane, 3rd Baron O'Neill. His ancestry encompasses connections to the Earls of Dundonald, Earls of Wemyss and March, Marquess of Crewe, and Dukes of Somerset.
At 16, Gibson joined an a cappella group at the London studio of Brian Eno, who was a neighbor of his family. This opportunity led to collaborations with Eno and Karl Hyde on the albums "Someday World" and "High Life" in 2014, where Gibson contributed as a co-producer and songwriter. That same year, he participated in the Red Bull Music Academy in Tokyo, further honing his musical skills.
Gibson's career as a producer and songwriter flourished as he worked with artists like Ellie Goulding, Charli XCX, Shawn Mendes, George Ezra, Rita Ora, BTS, and Ed Sheeran. Notably, he co-wrote George Ezra's "Shotgun," which reached number one on the UK Singles Chart in June 2018. He also contributed to Clean Bandit's "Solo" featuring Demi Lovato and Rita Ora's "Let You Love Me." In 2019, Gibson played a significant role in Ed Sheeran's "No.6 Collaborations Project," co-writing and producing 12 out of 15 tracks, including hits like "I Don't Care," "South of the Border," "Beautiful People," "Antisocial," and "Take Me Back to London."
In 2020, Gibson was honored with the Producer of the Year award at the Brit Awards, becoming the youngest recipient of this title. This accolade recognized his extensive contributions to the music industry and his work with various artists.
In 2019, Gibson embarked on a personal project titled "Actual Life," where he collected samples from voice memos, social media clips, and other artists' music to create original tracks. He described this endeavor as a "collaborative diary" reflecting his life experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic. The first album, "Actual Life (April 14 – December 17 2020)," was released in April 2021, followed by "Actual Life 2 (February 2 – October 15 2021)" in November of the same year.
Gibson's live performances have garnered critical acclaim. In July 2022, he delivered a set for Boiler Room in London, which significantly boosted his popularity. That same week, he released the single "Turn On the Lights again.." with Swedish House Mafia, sampling Future's 2012 track "Turn On the Lights." His third solo studio album, "Actual Life 3 (January 1 – September 9 2022)," was released on October 28, 2022, preceded by singles like "Danielle (Smile on My Face)," "Bleu (Better with Time)," "Kammy (Like I Do)," "Delilah (Pull Me Out of This)," and "Clara (The Night Is Dark)."
Gibson's debut tour, spanning from October 2022 to February 2023, saw sold-out shows across Europe, America, New Zealand, and Australia. Prior to this, he had performed at various pop-up shows and festivals, including a notable back-to-back set with Swedish House Mafia.
In January 2023, Gibson collaborated with Skrillex and Flowdan on the single "Rumble," which achieved significant success. The trio, along with Four Tet, performed at various venues, including a sold-out show at Madison Square Garden in February 2023. Gibson also appeared on NPR's Tiny Desk Concerts in April 2023 and played the final set of Coachella that same month. In June 2023, he made his debut at the Glastonbury Festival.
Gibson's contributions have been recognized with several awards and nominations. At the 66th Annual Grammy Awards, he was nominated for Best New Artist and won Best Dance/Electronic Album for "Actual Life 3 (January 1 – September 9 2022)" and Best Dance/Electronic Recording for "Rumble" with Skrillex and Flowdan. He has also received nominations for the Mercury Prize and multiple Brit Awards, including Artist of the Year and Best Dance Act.
