Steve Lawler
Steve Lawler is a British house music producer and DJ whose performances at Space in Ibiza earned him the nickname “King of Space.” Born Stephen Craig Lawler in Birmingham, England, in 1973, he built an international profile through club residencies, mix albums and productions spanning house, techno, tribal house, tech house and progressive house. He is a five-time DJ Awards winner.
Lawler's early activity included organising raves beneath the M42 motorway in the UK during the early 1990s. By the middle of that decade, he had held a residency at Cream, and his DJ career later became closely tied to Ibiza's Space, where he held a nine-year residency and returned in 2008. He has also been a resident at London clubs The End and Home, as well as Twilo. At The End, his VIVa Nights ran from opening until close for seven years.
As a recording artist, Lawler has released original tracks and remixes through a range of dance labels, including Bedrock Records, DIRTYBIRD, Frau Blau, SHEN Recordings and Soundtuary Music. He is particularly associated with the Lights Out mix series, issued through Boxed, and has also released the mix series Dark Drums and VIVa. His work included a track for the horror film The Skeleton Key, directed by Iain Softley.
In 2006, Lawler founded VIVa Music, which he continues to run. He also founded Harlem Records, a label that is now defunct.
