Julien Baker

Julien Rose Baker is an American indie rock singer-songwriter and guitarist whose work is widely described as moody and confessional. Her songs are known for frank lyrical explorations of Christianity, addiction, mental illness, and human nature, subjects she approaches with directness and emotional intensity. She is from Memphis, Tennessee, and has also been credited under the names Julien Baker and JB.

Baker’s music has been associated with ambient folk and indie pop as well as indie rock, reflecting a songwriting style that often emphasizes atmosphere and intimacy alongside guitar-driven arrangements. Her writing is frequently discussed in terms of its personal candor, with lyrics that foreground interior experience rather than narrative distance. In addition to performing and writing, she has also taken on production work.

Alongside her solo career, Baker is a member of the group Boygenius. Through that project, she has received six Grammy Award nominations and has won three Grammy Awards. Her recordings have been released through labels including Matador and Island Records.
