Boygenius brought together three established American singer-songwriters, Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers and Lucy Dacus, for a 2018 self-titled EP. The indie rock supergroup's six-song debut was written over four days and released on October 26, 2018, pairing the members' distinct voices in a collaborative setting.

After a hiatus, the trio returned with their first studio album, The Record, on March 31, 2023. Its rollout included the singles “$20,” “Emily I’m Sorry,” “True Blue,” “Not Strong Enough” and “Cool About It,” alongside a short film for the album. The Record was a critical and commercial success: New Musical Express called it an “instant classic,” while the album topped charts in the United Kingdom, Ireland and the Netherlands and reached number four on the U.S. Billboard 200.

The album also earned Baker, Bridgers and Dacus three Grammy Awards and a Brit Award. Boygenius followed it with the EP The Rest on October 13, 2023. The group is currently on hiatus.
